Burundi, Kinama Hill
The Location
From the mountains of the Bujumbura region overlooking Lake Tanganyika comes this excellent coffee. Despite being among the smallest coffee-producing countries in East Africa, with a population of 10.5 million, the Burundi region boasts ideal conditions for coffee production. Arabica Bourbon coffee trees thrive in the elevations of 1500 – 2000m, volcanic soil, abundant rainfall, and the care of approximately 800,000 families who cultivate an average of 150-200 coffee trees per farm. Over the past 25 years, Burundi has consistently produced an average of 26,700 tons of coffee per year.
Burundi Coffee
Experience the vibrant flavours of our limited-edition Burundi natural-processed Arabica coffee. Grown at 1700-1900 meters, this Red Bourbon variety thrives in the high-altitude environment, allowing the cherries to develop exceptional complexity. The result is a cup bursting with tropical fruit, mango and vanilla notes, with the natural process enhancing the coffee’s inherent sweetness and fruity profile.
The Producers
The producers Migoti Coffee Company source the highest quality coffee across all of Burundi, with over 300 tons of green coffee produced and exported from Migoti Mountain in the 2017-2019 coffee seasons.. The name ‘Migoti’ comes from a local indigenous tree, which is also the name of the mountain where Migoti built their first coffee washing station. The coffee trees are owned by the community, and Migoti purchases the cherries directly from the farmers. The station is staffed by a local team of ten permanent employees and 250 seasonal workers from March to June. Migoti also provides ongoing education to farmers on best practices for coffee tree care, leading to increased yields.
